Hi everyone

I've just started to get back into my roadie after almost 12 months off due to a prolapsed disc. The nerve damage causing muscle wasting in my left leg . But thankfully most of the pain has now gone.

I've noticed that on the last couple of rides I've been on. (same route, 16 miles, 1500 feet of climbing, basically 2 hills, 1000 ft first straight away followed by 500 ft mid way) that I feel as though I have no energy at all for the first 20 odd minutes and sweat like a pig. Come the second climb however I'm mashing the pedals, pulling up on the upstroke and flying up the hill. My average speed for this bit goes right up.

Does it really take that long to warm up? I don't remember that before! Also when warmed up, if that's what it is, I seem to have loads more power than before. I am also now climbing standing pulling on the drops! It's like WTF am not the same cyclist! I never did that lol.

Insights, comments, observations welcome guys. Perhaps I've been abducted by aliens at some point!

I take a good 20 mins or so to warm up for a ride and feel best after a few miles usually. Don't know what it is but it seems to just take some time for my body to settle into the rhythm.

Which hills are you riding btw? From where you are the first one sounds like Cold Fell.

It takes me a good 15 mins to warm up,even though I do a few stretches before I start riding. This first 15 mins is taken at a moderate pace and using the gears so I don't push myself too much. At the end of my ride, I poodle about in front of the house for another few mins as a warm down, which is just as important as warming up

Yup I take a long time to get 'warmed up' atleast 15 minutes usually about 20-25. Which is dependant on many variables
