I got this given. It's a Trek 4300 and most of the components have had it, although the frame is good and the wheels appear to be straight. Also the BB still feels smooth.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with it; probably it will be a spare commuting bike. The forks weigh a ton so I'll be replacing them with rigid ones if I can find some with disc caliper mounts for a reasonable price.

The chainset is a rivetted-together affair and my mate seems to have spent a good deal of time in the granny ring as it seems completely worn out. I'll just drill out the rivets and bin it as I never use granny rings anyway (SS rider, see!).

The headset and back wheel bearings are shot but very cheap. It needs a casette and I'll probably fit a decent rear mech out of my box.

Anyone know where I can get some rigid forks with radial disc mounts for cheap?

No idea about the forks but would love to hear about your progress on this project. Enjoy and well done.

Thanks!

Hmm... Looks like the carbon one is the only post mount one. I suppose I could buy some of the £60 jobs and buy an adaptor...
