Sitting on my bed in a hotel room in Cape Town's Waterfront having done my first Cape Argus. Managed it in 4 hrs 38 of riding at a slowish 14.6 mph thanks to strong winds. The distance is 68 miles and the race goes around the Cape from the Indian ocean to the Atlantic. Stunning scenery, fantastic roads, 40,000 riders, thousands of enthusiastic spectators especially on the last big hill, Suikerbossie. I punctured once in a rough Coloured area and found myself trying to fix the flat with the enthusiastic help of four small boys who didn't understand my English at all!
Lance rode it and has declared it a "cool race". He came 9th after setting up for his team mate to come third. I started reasonably early at 08:02 with the "foreign legion" and as I type riders are still coming in, the slower ones will be exhausted.
The legs feel tired now! What an experience! Got to fly home Monday night on KLM back to the cold.
