Just Brought My First Second Hand Bike Off Ebay

I've been reading the boards for the last couple of weeks and found plenty of info to digest. My budget was really small for my first bike and I really didnt think I would find anything half suitable.

Today I collected my bike after making a quick purchase on Ebay it seemed to have all the things I required for starting and at a "Buy Now" of just £40.00 didn't have much to loose. It's a 15yr old Dawes Hyrbrid. Completed my first 10 miles this morning and felt pretty good at the end of it. Looking forward to doing much more cycling in the coming months and getting fitter in the process. Thanks for a great site and inspiring us newbies to get riding.;)

Hello and welcome.

Your first bike is always cheap. It's the second, third, fourth, and fifth that'll dent your budget... Be warned.

:welcome:and:bravo: on getting yourself a great started bike. I have never heard a bad work said about the Dawes range and new parts (if needed) should be easy to come by.

Enjoy your new found freedom and please keep us informed about your progress.

Similar to you I recently bought a secondhand Appolo Hybrid for £60 .Had to fit a new freewheel but in a way thats good as Im learning about bike mechanics as well. After less than a month I allready feel fitter. Longest ride so far is 10 miles but it is hilly here.

Im working up to doing a 20 miler maybe in about a months time. Good Luck. Keep us posted how you get on.

Hi roundisland,

Well done on getting on 2 wheels for next to nothng, i just paid £11.50 for a spares/repair fullSus MTB, (and it's still VERY usable!) it's very satisfying to be a 'stig-of-the-dump re-cyclist!

Can you put your location in your details, with you member name, I, and many others may be looking for you in May, on the IoW Randonee - only to find you're on a different island!!

My £11.50 ebay purchase....

Falcon.jpg

bought as a donor for my previous MTB, a barracuda, whose BB died after spending sometime in sea water, when it was very cold!
In reality tho' I've taken the front forks from my Barracuda, and put them on the Falcon, 'cos they were stuffed!

Thanks for all the replies I've been working this weekend so I've been unable to cycle, have a few days off from tomorrow so looking forward to getting out there. I've just moved from the Isles of Scilly hence the name Roundisland. I'm currently living in Gloucestershire.
Pic of my ebay buy all works fine.

Good going. Looks like a good starter bike before you get hooked and spend, spend, spend!
