.... set of clipless pedals and shoes. I know there's loads of threads about this kind of thing already but I'm just wondering if the installation of the cleat etc is fairly straight forward. Would you think I would have to do any adjusting to the pedal?

Sorry for the stupidness but I am a virgin at this

Picked myself up some of these in black http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/dhb_R1_Road_Shoes/5360033177/

And I've ordered these pedals in silver as they'd run out of black and didn't want to miss out on the price! http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Shimano-Shimano-PD-M520-SPD-Pedals--Silver-10226.htm

I also went for SPD MB pedals as opposed to SPD-SL Road pedals as I want to feel reasonably comfortable walking in them if I have to. Seeing as I'm a newbie to road cycling, I figured it wouldn't make too much of a difference

I dont like those really flash coloured road shoes that everyone hears you coming,
So i purchased Shimano MT20,
And i love them not flash and if you wanted, you could wear them up the high st.

Flash coloured? I bought them in black...;)

I won't be walking in them much anyway. When I go for a ride, I usually just do a round trip without any breaks

I just do the same, regarding round trips, but the shoes look ok,
Im 60, and i know the importance of being seen, but most clycling clobber makes you look like a Canary,
my gore jacket is a dark grey, and my leggings are ron hills bikers,
And i wont mention should over 60s wear lycra?

Well you are not going to find walking very easy in those shoes.
The flat bottom of the shoe and the exposed cleat will mean walking will be very uncomfortable.

For walking it would have been better for you to buy the MB version which have grips and a recessed cleat.

edit.
just seen your post above about not alking very far
I am considering calling them up and changing my order to those ones... Not sure though

Will a 3 bolt road shoe be compatible with a 2 bolt mtb pedal ???

They should fit both, but not at the same time.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
I'm confused - to get back to the OP - if you bought M520 pedals you are going to need the 2 bolt version of the shoe - the MTB version, a road shoe & 3 bolt cleat (Look style) won't work with them.

It may be worth pointing out that I only cycle for pleasure and the only 'event' I do is the L2B bike ride every June. IMO, I think I should be ok with the MTB pedal/Road shoe set up

The dhb shoes take 2 amd 3 bolt cleats.

- that's worth knowing, and in some ways very sensible. Personally if I had MTB pedals I would go for the MTB version of the shoe, as walking in road shoes more than a few feet is not very possible.

I may yet do that. I think I've ordered the wrong size anyway- didn't see the chart until after I'd ordered them
