Advice sought please.

Can I use a KMC quick link on a Shimano HG40 chain? Obviously, both 8 speed. Opinions online seem divided.

As far as I can tell, you can and I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that I have in the past but HG40 is an awful chain and wears quickly. KMC Z series lasts longer and will probably come with a KMC quick link, but seems slightly harder to set up indexing on.

I normally buy KMC chains but the HG40 came in a chain/cassette bundle so once it wears out I will return to normal.

Update: I have just fitted the chain with a KMC link. The only niggle I have is that the side plates on the Shimano chain links are shaped slightly barrel shaped whilst the side plates on the link are flat. It doesn't seem to make any difference though. If the chain is as crap as suggested it wont be on there too long anyway

The Shimano side plates have a bulge in them which is supposed to help gear changes as it should theoretically help engage the chain quicker when it moves over to another sprocket. Slicker gear changes or not, I would still always go for KMC chains from choice.....and my trike takes nearly 3 of them.
