Jodrell Bank: bike parking?

hi all
Anyone know - offhand - if there is a decent place to lock up bikes there? I want to spend a few hours in the observatory learning about black holes and that so want a decent stand to lock the bike to. JB website says nowt about this.

There's a lot of metal frame on those big telescope things, lock it to that. Mind you, you might come out and find your bike 100ft up in the air pointing at Alpha Centauri....

Fact of the day: the pivots on the original telescope dish are recycled salvage from a WW2 warship's gun turrets.

I'm sure there will be something to lock it to, but in any case it's in the middle of nowhere down a tiny country lane so I can't imagine it's the capital of bike theft.

There are in the car park. We did a Cycle Chat ride to Jodrel Bank, and for some reason we weren't allowed to leave the bikes propped against a wall whilst in the cafe, as some kid had pulled a load over on themselves some time before our visit....

I had a look at opening times & the place closes early in the winter - like 3PM - so I would guess the boffins are making the most of the darkness!

Talking about warships, I know a guy who calibrates extremely sensitive lab instruments using steel salvaged from the WWI German fleet that was scuttled at Scapa Flow in 1919. It appears that all modern steel is contaminated with radiation from all those A-bomb tests we used to have...

Bin wondering that myself... got tickets to see the Flaming Lips play at Jodrell Bank and am planning on camping nearby and cycling to and from the concert... it with a few thousand revellers knocking about i want it to be secure.

minor tangent... anybody know of a nice little camp site near Jodrell Bank?

There is one near Byley which is not far from from Jodrell Bank.

It's not exactly a high crime area unless you happen to be a premier league footballer so I would lock up to whatever is handy or even ask the staff if they have somewhere to hide it away for a few hours.
