My cycling buddy used to take energy bars out with him, but has now switched to taking a jelly (not made, still in it's wrapper!) and he says it works just as well. Has anyone heard of this and could it have the same benefits as energy bars? I know some on here take jelly sweets out with them.

60+g carbs per 100g bar @30p a bar. Hmmm

I have never considered it as a sports food but I love jelly blocks. My wife hides it so I can't filtch it from the cupboard when she isn't looking.

Glucose/fructose so good for a short-term hit, but not ideal for fuelling a long ride. I'd say it's more suited to emergency use, perhaps in place of an energy gel.

If you don't want to spend over £1 a bar on energy bars then just buy some muesli bars instead. There's always something good on offer at one of the big supermarkets (e.g. 6 Elevenses for £1 in Asda not so long ago).
