Is this an issue for Mahle powered Ebikes or just a rare occurence?
I ride Merrida E Speeder and its never given any trouble after 6,000 km but I got caught in heavy rain and now its stuck on.

Update on E Speeder iWoc staying on. The bike shop was busy so it was 4 days before they could attend to it and then it came good by itself. it must have dried out in that time. I'm now looking for some tape or other covering to keep water out (something that Mahle might have considered)

Second update; the bike shop only thought it was ok but later found that it is still stuck on. They say its not the iWoc button but the computer which is part of the battery. I'm waiting for a quote but I expect a new battery will be close to $1,000 Australian. I also have a theory that the water found its way into the down tube (battery location) via the brake lines. I will look into sealing their entry points with silicon when i finally get the bike home.

Good morning,

I had it twice when I first got the Ribble, but no more, it may be the cling film!

It may be that the button is waterproof unless you press it, this sort of thing is very common with watches.

Both times it happened to me the problem resolved itself after a couple of days, so it did take some time to dry out and me press the button again.

The system was never intended to be on when not in use and the electronics seem to draw around 2-3W/h (48-72W/day) so a 250Wh battery is not going to last too long before needing a charge.

Drying out any electronics (after a soaking) normally sorts issues like Ian says, if you can keep the bike somewhere warm that will help. I've also done what Ian has on a charging point on the bike I don't use (with some waterproof tape) as nothing is 100% waterproof unfortunately.

I've heard of this but fortunately not had the issue on my bike (Orbea Gain). It's had a couple of soakings too.
Once it's fully dry I'd be tempted to smear some silicone grease round the button edges and into the gap. Don't use anything conductive though.

The bike is supposed to auto shut off after a few minutes of non use, at least mine does. More than once I've set off after a stop on a ride and wondered why it was so hard up the next hill before I noticed the bike was off.

I'd be slightly wary of Dadam's silicone grease suggestion because you don't want the reverse happening - i.e. non-conductive grease making it's way into the iWOC and getting between the button contacts (say on a very hot summer's day and the bike is left in direct sunlight). That risk will depend on how the button is made - I haven't tried pulling mine apart - but I think an external barrier like tape might be the one to try first.

But do warm it through first for 24-48 hours to get it dry & working again - otherwise the tape/grease will just trap the moisture.
I've never had the problem on mine in 4 years, but then again I dodge really heavy downpours as often as possible. Fair weather biker.
