Last week I put my Marathon Winters on. When I thought I'd finished I noticed the inner tube pinched between the tyre and rim, so did it all again.
Second time of pumping up the inner tube exploded as I was pumping.
Third time everything seemed tyo be ok, me and OH both did a thorough visual inspection and it seemed ok. Been riding it all week.
Much to my alarm this evening have noticed a bulge between the tyre and rim.
I'll post a photo tomorrow, but guess I will have to replace the tyre.

I'd be inclined to let the air out. Things going bang in the night might get a response not intended.

That happened to me once when a tyre bead wasn't seated properly on the rim.

The inner tube forced it over the rim with a bang, and I didn't recover my hearing properly for about six hours.

Was your bulge in the valve area. Loosen your nut, push the whole valve inside, jiggle it and squeeze the tyre walls to enable the bead to seat, pull your valve out and tighten your nut a little.
With any tough tyre, it always pays to check the rim for sharp holes and edges and use decent (Velox) rimtape.

Did you pre-inflate the tube slightly before installing in the tyre? I find this helps guard against a trapped tube. You need to put just enough air in so that you get a slight fold in the tube when you hang the tube over one finger.

jiggle it and squeeze
I find that with too much jiggling and squeezing it gets very hard with nearly no pumping, and explodes in your hands when you didn't expect it to. If someone was hoping to go for a spin then they are going to be very frustrated, as the thing will have rapidly deflated and be far too soft to ride on.

Deflate, remove & check the tyre rim that the bead is constant and formed correctly.

I had a faulty Marathon with this problem, an email with photo to Schwalbe and they sent out a replacement tyre that day.

I'll tinker a bit this afternoon. I'm a bit nervous about tyres since my OH had a blowout whilst travelling downhill at approx 35mph a couple of years ago.

I've tried to take some photos this morning but it hasn't really worked.
It looks like the tyre is too far in the rim in one section and what I first thought was a bulge it actually where it returns to its normal position.
Will take it off and put it back again and see how it looks!

Any one else read the thread title and though Sara had been playing mummies and daddies?
That or not adjusting food intake to reduced winter mileage, yes.

I had a Schwalbe Delta Cruiser refuse to sit on the rim. Watching the rim pass the brake pads, I saw it was buckled and the old tyre had deformed along with it. Hope that's not the case here.

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned using talcum powder on your rim!
