I've eaten all the bugs and the gloomy woods

Well another evening trip out and covered a good 13 miles. Must remember to angle face to avoid eating them pesky bugs. Did try closing my mouth but no chance in survin

The route was noted when in a car so decided to do it on the bike. Blinking hidden inclines..Travelling through the woods in the dark was interesting. Kept thinking I'm sure I'm being watched. My speed increased dramatically.

Still a long way to go before I get close to where I want to be but fair progress.

I rode with MapMyRide! Distance: 13.71mi, time: 01:02:04, pace: 4:32min/mi, speed: 13.25mi/h.

Nice one, keep up the good work. The bugs seem to particularly suicidal this summer - every ride ends up with a mouth full of them.

My old neck of the woods, used to live on the edge of Welwyn and walk up to Welwyn North station to get the train into London for work. Pretty hilly around there so its proper cycling country.

A buff is kind of a good idea, but not nice in very hot weather. On last week's ride home in 30 summat degrees I got one fly in my eye, a near simultaneous one down the throat as I started to do the gurning impressions to remove the one from my eye, and then managed to get one up my nose a few seconds later on an in-breath. I think that swam in my sinus for about 2 hours

True, but on an evening ride, (and I don't know what time you commute), and/or in or near to woods at this time of the year, I'd expect to be hit by bugs. I suppose it depends on which discomfort you consider worse, the bugs or the buff.

A very light cotton buff pulled up over the nose and mouth will stop the ingress of bugs and to be honest makes little or no difference to how sweaty one gets, a pair of wrap around cycle glasses will also help stop the bugs getting into your eyes.

With regards to bugs. I forgot my big riding glasses last week and ended up with three or four bugs in the eyes. They were as sore has hell for 3 days and so I wont be making that mistake again.

I don't often do the 32 mile commute home, and yes I expect the odd bug, but I got mugged this time
