Can I get a replacement or do I need a whole new BB ?

Is it called the cup?

Yes, that will be an adjustable cup.

Never seen them for sale but if you pop in to your LBS they might have one they could let you have FOC from an old BB they have replaced.

Note that for BBs with plastic cups you should always install/remove the metal fixed cup first to minimise strain on the more fragile plastic cup.

Make sure the threads in the frame are really cleaned.

I'll get back to you later. I should have one unused plastic cup, and possibly an alloy one (although that's been used and may not fit that bb). My MTB tends to eat BB's every two years or so, so I re-use the alloy cup (for obvious reasons), but this time it would not fit the new BB.

I can drop one off - I'll text you if I find some !

Gaz, found the plastic one in the spares box.

I can pop it through the letterbox over the weekend if you wish (in an envelope to stop it rolling away )

Fit BB shell from drive side, don't fully tighten just yet. Now fit plastic cup and tighten slightly so it engages the BB casing. Now tighten drive side. Then continue to tighten the cup.

The cup may stick out 5mm or it may sit flush - depends on frame and BB. Tighten cup until you feel alot of resistance.

I'll drop it in over the weekend - need to go out and get petrol for my car at some point as it's running on fumes !

Thanks Foz - it's like learning to ride again

I've rode for 3 years and done bugger all "fettling"

This morning my front wheel cone was lose, I adjusted it then asked a guy at work to check it, he said it was spot on - I was well chuffed :-)

I'll get there - it's just the start of the learning curve
