Hi all.

I noticed on my ride home from work yesterday that my rear wheel had a massive wobble, thought it might just need a bit of a true but on closer inspection the rim is cracked at the base of one of the spokes.

So, I need a new wheel, and I have been searching for the last couple of hours for something that will support my hefty weight (118kg) But nothing I look at seems to be able to support me.

Does anyone have any recommendations? (apart from losing weight)

FYI. It is a road bike. Currently using 23mm tyres. Shimano cassette, rim brakes. Have I missed anything?

Check out Rose Bikes they have plenty of options and cheap as chips. At our weight I'd say at least 32 spokes.

Ta for the advice, was thinking it might mean going down the hand built route. Any ballpark idea on cost?

I recently bought a wheelset from DCR wheels in Sussex. Whole process was handled professionally from start to finish. If you email him with a few details of your requirements he will make some recommendations for you.

Have a good look around his website as it's full of good info, but there is advice which may be relevant to you on this particular page

Thanks,
I'm a, er, larger cyclist, and got a set of these a couple months back. Unfortunately the price has gone up a bit since the referendum

I was actually looking at the 32 hole version of something similar on wiggle earlier and it was way more expensive, this looks like it will exactly do the trick, I am not trying to break the bank either so I will take a close look. Cheers.

A hand built 36 spoke open sport rim for £66..open pro for £81.

I have the latter, weigh 88kg and tour with 20kg of stuff.........

If you want cheaper, heavier , Halfords do a well regarded rear road wheel with 36 spokes for £35 ...
ps Decathlon do stock wheels as wheel for a decent price

Im about 16 stone mind you and on my Dunwich Dynamo ride I was carrying at least 5-8Kg of stuffs in my carradice saddle bag and not to forget 3x750ml waterbottles which were almost if not constantly refilled at every food stop because i drink water like a goldfish.

I run 25mm tyres but im sure both wheelsets can handle 23mm
