Did anyone watch this last night ( its repeated on sunday)
I would love to get hold of a copy of the picture of Jacques Anquetil fighting it out with another rider on a climb. Any ideas?

Go to l'equipe and buy one of their archive photos - there are thousands to choose from

Yeah saw that - was very good wasnt it.

That bit where Lance Armstrongs team mate died was sickening though.

You can buy them from L'Equipe. See here. Anqueteil v Poulidor is the first one on the page.

There was an english version of the site which very helpfully sent me 2 copies of the picture I'd ordered! (A fabulous quality A2ish sized print of Gino Bartali in 1938).

Recorded that programme last night for consumption later tonight.

I like the older photos where you can see the riders' spare inner tubes / tyres over their shoulders. Nutcases. And to think, I complain about the odd pothole.

Great programme -

I remember watching the tour where Fabio Casatelli died - it was pretty gruesome - blood all over the road - you could just see it last night. - I think he was a gonner on impact of the concrete bollard - he never moved.

Great remembering all those moments when I was 15-16 screaming at the telly for Lemond - the 1985 tour, before Lemond won was a tricky one - Hinault and the team, including the French were a right gits to Lemond, who clearly had better form. Think Lemond got punched by the crowd a few times...the Frenchies realising their Hero was now getting past it !

Somebody worked out at the time, that had Fignon not had his ponytail, and the resulting drag it caused, he would have beat Lemond !!

Greatest moments? They were having a laugh, Lance Lance Lance Lance Lance............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I must have dreamt about millar becoming the first ever English speaker to win one of the jerseys, and Simpson being the first to wear yellow, all nicely ignored.

And if I ever see another clip of that f*cking "Look" again something solid will go through the screen.

All my sympathy Joe. I think the reason for so much Lance is that the company that produced the programme has only limited archive footage, so that which is over twenty years old is difficult to obtain. Or more to the point, expensive!!

I'm with you Joe.

I was half-expecting the no.1 greatest moment to be Lance going down the Champs Elysee for win no.7

That would have provoked something being thrown at the telly !

I'm also puzzled by the definition of 'greatest moment'
- what, the death of a rider, a big drugs bust provoking riders sit-down strike and half the teams going home ?
- these are 'greatest moments' ?

I disagree with you - I was expecting MORE about Lance.

Whats the problem with LA - he's ONE of the greatest riders ever??????

Love im or hate him, Mr Armstrong has obviously played a huge part in the history of the TDF.
Have to agree that the death of a rider hardly constitutes a greatest momment!
