A few Gaffs by the ITV team.

We will soon be approaching Haworth home of Tommy Simpson,
Simpson was from Harworth in North Nottinghamshire.

We will be leaving York and heading for Castle Howard !
Completely opposite direction to the actual race route.

Kept pronouncing the river Ure (pronounced yur in Yorkshire) er.

Kept pronouncing Harewood (pronounced as its spelt in Yorkshire) Harwood.

They always emphasize the French pronunciations you would think they would get the Yorkshire right.

Cringing to hear them shoe-horning anything to do with the Olympics into the commentary.

'The Olympic village looks resplendent!'

Does it aye?

It's not the tdf without moronic commentary on itv. Or some adverts that you've seen so many times you have a vendetta against that company. Or being encouraged to enter a competition to win a bike just as the sprint teams are getting going.

I thought it was The Gherkin and not The Onion as well? May be wrong though as I'm not a local!

Yesterday they were rambling on about Ladybower Reservoirs being at t'bottom of Holme Moss, then prattling on about how L'Bower used to train for dambusters raid. Correct, but the reservoirs at t'bottom of Holme Moss were Longdendale Valley. Daft bu**gers. Where do they get their researchers?

I thought their info was given by the TdF Organisers with details of all the eglises, chateaux, reservoirs and so on, so perhaps it's not all the commentators' fault !

I like Gary Imlach.

No idea if he knows much about pro cycling, but some of his patter is genuinely witty and sharp.

He also grasps how juvenile some roadies can be and is prepared to ridicule them for it.

Some of the mistakes were handed to them. For example, when the riders entered Oxenhope, the caption said it was Heptonstall. That is about 7 miles away on top of a hill which the route did not go over. The caption was probably prepared in advance because they did a helicopter shot of the 2 churches there. People here were not very pleased because while they were doing that, the peloton was whizzing through Hebden Bridge which barely got a mention. When it was mentioned, the riders were actually in Mytholmroyd, 2 miles further on!
