and expensive to get wrong .
As I started on a road bike last summer I seem to be having to buy new clothing as the seasons roll around but have no idea if im buying the right thing .
Over the winter I have been wearing a long sleeve thin top and a waterproof/windproof jacket . That's starting to get a bit hot so today I bought one of these ... http://www.evanscycles.com/products/louis-garneau/enerblock-2-cycling-jacket-ec054117 Is it too late to be wearing something like this or will it be cooler than the double layer I have been wearing ?

You still need a base layer. One of those soft shells are ideal for autumn, winter and spring.

Thing is, you will end up with lots of different kit, but I swear by soft shells in the colder months. If it's really cold I have a Decathlon insulated windproof, but it's too darn hot until it's way below freezing.

Ive just had a horrible thought .
I could take something with me and if I get too cold put it on , or wear something and if I get too hot take it off . This however will , at some point tomorrow , have me standing in public in nothing but my new bib shorts

Gilets are good when the temperatures between about 5-10 degrees, keep you warm and let the sweat out , waterproofs I find are not great for cycling , the jacket you bought looks a good spring/Autumn jacket but might not be warm enough this time of year especially up in the hills.

Thanks for the replies . I had planned on just wearing the new jacket and bib shorts . Its supposed to be quite warm in London tomorrow and seeing as its Sunday tomorrow ill have to work with what I have . Richmond park is only 5 miles away so I can always head home if I get it wrong . Or take the van with a wardrobe :girl:

I am looking getting the same softshell, to replace my trusty Aldi jacket.

Have you got it yet? thoughts? what colour did you get?

Yes I bought it and it has been great . During the winter all I have needed is the soft shell and a long sleeve jersey . A bit warmer and a short sleeve breathable top with the soft shell .

I've got that jacket - it's great; was surprised at how high the front hem comes up though! I'd maybe go a size bigger than normal.
