The Fuji Tread 1.3 arrived! But you're not getting a photo yet as Evans delivered cheap ATB resin pedals instead of the alloy platforms advertised

*sigh*

So waiting for a callback to see if we can sort it out. And trying not to look out the window at the nice weather.

Get them to agree that you can ride it, pending fitting of the correct pedals. Its not as though they are going to sell the resin ones to anyone else.

Looks like a great bike!

Yes I was impressed by the pick up speed of the phone call.

I got impatient and called them back to check if they'd got my email (had requested a picture of the delivered pedals) and to check if I could put the cheap ones on to evaluate the bike. At first I was fobbed off with a 'those are the pedals that come with every bike' which would be very nice if the bike wasn't meant to come with pedals, but it is (and is in fact one of the range differentiators). Then it was 'the cage of the basic pedals is the advertised alloy platform'. After some clear pointing out of evidence that the bike is meant to come with something better, and pointing them at their own brand alloy platforms (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fwe/flat-alloy-pedals-ec051358) they admitted the wrong pedals had been sent and they would send out those platforms linked. I can test the bike on the cheap ones in the meantime.

So despite unease at having to argue the point I'm in the end happy (well, more so when they arrive) and will soon have a pair of beginner* pedals that I can cycle at night with too.

Still don't want to take a photo of the bike with the plastic ones though

*Yes, I'll change to SPDs eventually but only once I find some shoes that I know fit.

Probably a simple mistake - they do have an alloy cage, but they're not alloy pedals and they're ATB style, which I don't get on with.

I gave in and took a photo anyway. I think I'll leave the bell on for comedy effect. Need to play with the fit a bit more - short legs means the saddle's a bit lower than ideal on this frame and the headset could do with going down a bit, though it's very comfy as is. Maybe should have got for the size down and added a longer stem, but that size was discontinued.

Quick test reveals she accelerates very nicely. There're plenty of noises to worry me but I guess I need to give it some time for pads etc to bed in. And boy is downshifting the front dérailleur noisy! The rear is nice and sweet with the click and then release, but having the front release with an almighty clunk at the end of the travel while you're still pushing it is going to take a little getting used to!

@kalniel it would look better without the plastic bag on the saddle

I'm one of those people who likes to leave the plastic film on screens for as long as possible before removing - the bag will go before my first ride but I want the saddle to stay pristine until then

I can't think where I would at the moment! Seriously, I tend to get frustrated/tired spinning away without seeming to go anywhere. More practice needed for both the mental and physical sides I think!

Nice but (you know what's coming here,,);

Get rid of the bag(makes it look like some nasty hack left at a station overnight),plastic disc behind the cassette* and the reflector asap.

*When taking this off jump up and down on it repeatedly to ensure no one else uses this crime against cycling.***

Hehe. The bag went before the first ride. Front reflector will go shortly when I put the light bracket on. Rear will stay due to legal requirements as I understand it (though it may move - I've yet to figure out if I can fit a saddle bag with that low a seat).

However I will proudly keep the dork disc. That's staying along with the bell. That's just how I roll
