Just started again with a new road bike... And already motivation is waining (a little )..joined a cycling club but not been able to get a ride yet ( lack of numbers for C rides ). Not fit enough to do B or A .so I've got to try and stay motivated until I can enter the B's..I'm wondering if I wear one ear piece I can hear my strava . that may help .. I'm Hoping to be fit enough to enter a B ride next month.. Just have to grit my teeth till then ;(.

Why do you need to hear Strava? It's a distraction, fit a computer to the bars if wanting speed/distance info while riding

Also skyride social, I'm out on a 25miler tonight, and the same every Sunday. Nice steady pace and great people. Plenty in liverpool/ wirral if you look. ^_^

How far off the pace of the B riders are you? If you can keep their pace for a while just let them know you'll only be doing half their route and then breaking off?

This + you'd be surprised how much riding in a group makes going faster and further much easier, if the group is worth it's salt they'd have a no drop policy anyway. Go for the B ride, warn them about your concerns. You may find one or two may stick with you if you start to struggle and let the rest go at their own pace.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Sad that the traditional 'club run' catering for all seems to becoming a thing of the past. Seems a bit selfish that no one is willing to drop their speed a bit and look after a new member.

That's partly the reason why I didn't renew my subs with my local CC this year. When I first joined there, I was well treated and hence, I did the same to newer members but by the time I decided to leave, the vast majority treated club runs as a race/sportive/strava segment hunt and I was getting fed up of leading groups that got smashed to bits due to selfish riders. But that just my experience, not every club is the same.

As a very slow rider, I do think there is another side to this. I can work up a sweat trying to maintain 10mph on the flat - going uphill, 5 or 6mph may be my max. Not a problem in warmer weather, but I have felt bad when faster and fitter riders try to keep to my pace. They can cool down very quickly and become uncomfortable......also on the Sunday rides they are hoping to be home in time for Sunday lunch whereas I am happy to get home while there is still daylight!
