Hi

My Genesis Day One Disc developed a knocking noise. It is a number of times per revolution (I think three) and always to the same rhythm. It only knocks when the cranks are going round under some load; not necessarily a high load, but during normal riding and not on the workstand. It does not do it when freewheeling. It does not always do it. When it does do it, freewheeling or back pedalling a bit usually makes it stop.

When the bicycle was new I had the freewheel changed to one more suited to me (18T to 16T), so that was the original suspect so the freewheel was replaced again but that didn't cure it so the bottom bracket was changed but it still knocks.

A different rider (other than I) has heard it (so it's not my knees)

Any clues?

thanks

If the regular knocks rhyme with your leg motion, then the issue is at the front drive, i.e. chainset (shark teeth? bent teeth? do teeth mesh well with chain?), bb (probably not if replacement made no difference) or pedals (spindle or bearing fault?).

Tighten everything up as much as you can . I had an annoying knock form the front , tightened everthing I " thought " may have been the problem , it however persisted . The eventual outcome was a screw on the footplate of my SPD needed a quarter turn !
