Is this neck pain from the riding, or did I just sleep awkwardly?

Had a day off today to rest my sore butt. It's only just getting used to being planted firmly on a saddle again and 40 miles over Sat/Sun/Mon was too much for it. Anyhow, today my neck on one side is bloody sore. Just on the muscles near the shoulder. Now - I could just have slept funny (i know I woke to find the youngest T snuggled up next to me this morning so could have adapted my position to accommodate him) - or could I have "done" something to it while cycling?

And what can I do about it???

Very possibly, though it sounds odd to be just on one side...usually if you're increasing your miles and/or your set up's not correct you can get a bit of an ache around the shoulders/neck and upper back.

Be very gentle but perhaps try some stretches, begin by easing and trying to put your chin onto your chest to stretch out your upper back muscles. give yourself a little rub on the side that it hurts. I can't for the life of me think of how to describe those stretches that I do.

Bring you fingers together and push them out to extend your arms in front of you.
Put your arms on a wall and almost 'drag' your body down and walk your legs back a bit. Not the best description...hmm let me see if I can find a link for some of these:

Not read through them but this site might help.

thanks will try some of those before I go to bed (your description was fine

).

it is odd as like you say it's only one sided, so would be strange for a cycling induced thing, but then it doesn't really feel like when I've slept in an odd position (and given it's nearly bedtime now and it's still as sore as this morning possibly not)

Hopefully I'll wake up in the morning and it'll be fine. But interesting you say about the shoulders/neck/upper back ache - have had a little of that since I started so maybe I need to look at my set-up as well to ensure I do't make those issues worse but (but it's very different from this neck thing which bloody hurts if I move my neck in the wrong way).

Give it a couple of days.

I started riding on indoor rollers midweek last week, and I had a pain on one side of my neck from Sunday to Monday just past. I also had muscle pains on one leg. I'm putting it down to the muscles on each side compensating to balance properly. Anyway the pain has gone now after two days off the bike.

But if it was still there after more than a couple of days I'd be getting it checked out.
