There's a discussion going on over on one of the "other forums" about people deliberately blocking trails with logs, rocks, and even putting wire across them to catch out MTBers. I was really shocked to read it (and it made me realise how very lucky I am not to encounter this), and I wondered if anyone here has come across it.

Edit: Now that I've asked, I've just read this post.

Been going on for about 20 years in the kayaking world - farmers are happy to string barb wire up at neck height across a river on their land (which is technically against the law as all rivers are open passage and cannot be owned)

I know people do this at the end of their drive quite often, with a "privado" sign on it.

Round here, we also have chains across the ends of trails on public land, quite clearly marked, and with "no motor vehicles" signs next to them. It provides a safe "playground" for MTBers, runners, walkers, etc, and everyone gets on just fine.
