Hi Guys,

Just swapping out a derailleur on a basic raleigh road bike, not sure I will be continuing.

Does this look bent/twisted?

I would say that the rear mech hanger is bent inwards a tad, yes.

From what I am led to believe, it should be at a 90 degree right angle to the rear axle. From your pictures, I'd say that yours isn't.

If it is bent, it is definitely worth spending a few quid to change for a straight one, otherwise you will never get decent smooth shifts/indexing.

They can be straightened quite easily. I have the park tool, Park DAG2- Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge. which can be used to measure and straighten the hanger. They are a tad expensive at over 45 quid . But you can easily staighten it roughly by eye and a pair of mole grips.
