Just found this pic and i'm not sure what to think. Surely this will be the worst thing you could ever do to a drivetrain. dismantling rear mechs and stripping the threadlock form the jockeys is bad enough. but soaking a chain in salty fairy and hot water will only strip it of any oil it may once have had.
what daft thing do to!!

Depends on what you do afterwards. If you dried it thoroughly, then dunked the chain in oil for a while to get it back into the pins and rollers...no problem really.
Cant see the point myself tho...

I've dismantled my jockey wheels loads of times with no ill effects. When they get packed full of crap it's impossible to clean them properly any other way.

I also 'strip' all the oil from the chain, and the dirt with it. I think it's a good idea.

HeeEEEeere we go.....

Me too. Take the jockey wheels off and apart to clean them most weeks. Do the chain in citrus degreaser every week with a Park chain cleaner.

I do that to all my drivetrains once a year, although I use paraffin rather than fairy liquid and hot water. It works for me, although I do make sure I oil it all properly once it's back together.
