Those are very high quality components but to judge price we'd really need to know how old they are and how much use they've seen. Also, I'm a bit confused about how a bike with a Record group could have a DA rear mech. In general Shimano and Campag parts aren't interchangeable, or does it have friction (non-indexed) shifters?

sounds ok,

7005 aluminium is pretty standard on roag bikes up to about £1k. Above this you start getting into carbon. Although a lot of cheaper bikes will have carbon forks on them.

Dont undertand about the mix of shimano and campag, ask the seller to explain.

Other than that its fine, make sure it fits though. If it does have friction levers (ie they are on the frame rather than built in to the brake levers) then i would think hard about it. Theres nothing wrong with them but the newer ones have taken over for the simple reason...they are much better.

good luck

If it is the friction type gear change the Record set may worth taking off the bike and eBaying as they can fetch good prices in decent nick.

He goofed when he sent me the spec, he says its not shimano derailleur but a campag, it has the gear levers on the frame, not sti shifters on the bars
if i bought this as a stop gap do you reckon id get my money back for it in may when im looking to get a new one?

The price seems a bit high for a bike with downtube shifters. Sure, the kit is good but the frame doesn't sound anything special. I'd feel more confident assessing it with a pic though. Negotiatie maybe?

It depends on the quality of the Record group set. The frame is probably worth £50 tops so you will only get your money back if the Record groupset(if that is what it is) is in good nick.

Thanks for the advice fellas, i think im going to skip on this one, i cant believe how hard it is to find a second hand roadie.......

Are there any bike charities within striking distance? Or a Gumtree page for somewhere nearby? I recently got a nice Bianchi with good kit in need of a little work for £130. Deals are out there if you're patient.

Personally I'd check the eBay "road Bikes" and narrow the distance down to 10/25 miles - bookmark that page and then check it out on a regular basis.

Better yet, do that search, adding any extras that are important to you (eg maximum price) then click on 'save this search'. Then they'll email *you* when anything comes up that meets your spec.

That's how, for just one eg, I found out about this.

For another, this.

Or how about this.

It's really *not* hard to find a good road bike at a good price (tho' it depends obviously on what you're looking for) - all it takes is ebay, patience and homework (ie, google).

Don't forget the classifieds in your local paper - often it'll just say 'gents bike £25' and it could turn out to be a lovely old racer.
I bought a lovely Raleigh 531 steel racer for £20 from a village jumble sale too, they had 2 but Mrs 3BM would've gone spare if I'd bought both, she wasn't best pleased with the 1!
Plenty of other places to check as well as fleabay!

That's been my technique for finding stuff for years. I put links to my current searches on the favourites bar so I'm one click away from checking. It actually works better than the saved searches tool IMO because the emails for that don't come instantly so you can miss stuff.

When creating a local search you should sort it to show the most recently added items first. I've often found things on Buy It Now less than an hour after they've been listed.

A good tip - I used to just list the auction only bits but checked on the BIN section and a Raleigh 531,30 mins old,was on for £15 or best offer. It was a bit big for me but it had sold within 1 hour.
