I replaced the (8spd) cassette om my roadbike recently with a Shimano 'HG' one. My current chain (sram pg850) had very few miles on it so I kept it in service.
But...
although the d/r, chain and cassette all shift to order and the the set-up is properly indexed, there is quite a lot of 'fuss' and clank going on when shifting up AND down that wasn't there on my previous sram cassette.
Leads me to wonder whether there is any mileage in fitting a matching Shimano HG chain and whether that might make the shifting 'slicker'?
I never quite got the hype around chains.......fondly imaging a chain was a chain and none were significantly 'better than another - certainly at the cheaper 8spd end of the range.
Appreciate any thoughts or experience on the matter.
