Hi,

I am looking at a second hand Ribble Audax Winter Trainer to use as my regular commuter.

I have found a 2 year old one and it has the following

Aluminium Frame
Alpina carbon forks
Alpina headset
Shimano Ultegra 6500 chainset and BB
Ultegra front and rear mech
8 speed ultegra shifters
shimano brakes
shimano WH-R500 wheelset with hg50 12-23 cassette
hutchinson equinox kevlar tyres

If i can get it for around £200 - £250 is it worth it? What would be your ceiling price.

Is the spec good for an beginner like me?

Someone on here sold theirs recently on EBAY for more than that unless I'm very much mistaken. Someone I know has one and I'd pay that if they were selling it. There was a thread recently about frame sizes for ribble.

I sold mine on ebay for quite a bit more than that. Then again it was a significantly higher spec through-out.

I suspect from your description of the bike it isn't 2 years old at all. The frame was probably purchased 2 years ago and then built up with budget /old parts.

The R500 wheels are strong and reliable but they're not the lightest or smoothest. The Ultegra shifters are probably pre 1994(? - Can't remember the year)
HG50 is shimanos Sora cassette
The tyres are hutchinsons £10 specials.
The brakes appear to be none branded rubbish.

The Ribbles are GREAT bikes. It is probably worth £250 IF the bikes in good unworn condition. Try pointing out that loads of the bits of donkeys years old and most of the other parts are straight out of the bargain bin.
