is it necessary?

I'm awaiting a turbo trainer and wondered whether or not it's necessary for me to get one of these tyres designed to be used with turbo trainers? Will my current tyres (Gatorskins) be affected in anyway by using them on the trainer?

Thanks for the help

Turbo trainers put heat into the tyre and increase wear rate excessively.
I don't get turbo tyres, I just get cheap tyres from my lbs

Just faster wear and maybe some slipping but only really under heavy power. I'd but a TT tyre and new rear wheel with the same cassete. Just quick release it on. (shameless plug for a r501 rear wheel im selling).

I can use the stock wheels and tyres i have then? Good stuff!

It may be a shameless plug @L14M , but if you have a front R501 wheel I'll take it off you! A speed bump decided to give mine a thump only this week now there's a dink on the braking surface

Never noticed any wear on my tyres on the turbo and a ive done some big miles on it over the last few years . The contact is minimal, if youre worried just use an old worn out tyre from the shed if you have one, or buy a £10 Lugano...
