Definitely worth a go, although lots of bike shops will have road bikes on sale now to shift last years stock and make space for christmas stock, doubt if yo'd get much more off a sale bike. My mate is an absolute bargian king, always asks for a discount, does it with a nice big smile in a chatty way and i'm amazed by how often he gets one!

Me i am too reserved and would generally prefer too pay more than the asking price than ask for one!

I got £50 off my Trek by haggling. If the shop does "free credit" dont expect it to really be free. You will probably get a better price if you pay by cash or card.

Good Luck

Even if you can't get m off the actual bike itself, you should be able to wangle a decent discount on any extras.

I got a damned good deal on lights/lock/pedals and shoes when I bought the road bike.

Recently I got 10% off a new Spesh Carbon Roubaix, also thrown in for free, 2 Spesh bottle holders and a Spesh saddle bag. Also bought a Spesh Secteur Elite and got pair free XT spd pedals and 2 Spesh bottle holders. So if you don't ask you don't get

Pretend you're an Indian as they always haggle. Recently we bought "brassware", all the taps and valves for our bathroom project. The supplier gave us over 25% discount and when we were reckoning up the final price I asked if that was the best they could do and the bloke rounded everything down to the nearest £10 for me! I was amazed but kept quiet.

The best way to get good prices is find a bike shop that you like, where you get good service and people who know what they are talking about - and stick with them.

Unless it is urgent and they have run out, I use my LBS for everything. I don't just buy the bike from them and get everything else from Wiggle, or go in and tell them how much cheaper it is online (where they have no premises to maintain and you can't try stuff on).

As a result I get at least 10% off everything, automatically, and don't have to haggle.
