is 600m / 1945ft in 22 miles a lot of climbing?

hi all,

hope this is the right section. as title says, do i live in a hilly area? or is this just typical of a ride in most of the country? did it on a brompton as well.

cheers

That would suggest a ride that I would describe as hilly. Most of my 25 mile rides in my neck of the woods would be more like 1000 feet per 25 miles or so, unless I deliberately rode up and down some local hills.

rossendale. compared to nelson where i used to live and ride it feels hilly. but i suppose it's relative. this is my normal circular route with an extra road i found today.

the routes address is:-

www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=16901

just paste into browser and see the route.

my average speed on the brompton is slow tho 11 mph. but i am reasonably unfit and weight 16ish stone.

AAA formula for events of less than 300km

P = (c - (d * 14) + ((d-100)*(d-100)/100)) / 400

Where:P = AAA points for the distance, to be rounded to the nearest ¼ point. c = total metres climbed, d = distance in kilometers.

Here's the formula off Audax UK's website.

The 600m climbing in a Populaire of 100 km ( minimum for AAA ) is not scratching the surface.
You'll need to treble the climbing to earn 1/4 AAA point.

You post makes no sense. Not that you need to explain it in any more depth, as it will still make no sense to the average person. it mixes languages, uses acronyms, complex formula and hypothetical algebraic tosh.
If you meant to confuse rather than enlighten Jimbolee then you have achieved that..

edit and it hardly relates to the OP's question!!

my distance was 35km (rounded) therefore to get the formula to work i would need to triple it (for guestimation it's near enough) then round up to the nearest 1/4 point. therefore if i went my circuit 3 times i would earn 1/4 point. what prize would i get?

Rossendale is 8miles away from me.

Anyway, I'd consider that route hilly, there aren't many huge hills near me though.

if you look at the route, i only have 2 ways to get home, both long hilly slogs. i also have a 100m 20% climb just to get off the bloody estate. didn't think that thru when i was buying it.

So does that mean my ride of 4.8 miles is going to be reall hilly, according to bikley it's a total elavation of 2203ft?

I have walked it a few times and it never seemed to hilly.

i must admit i do like riding round here, both mtb and road. i am slowly getting used to the hills. the roads are in poor condition but you get used to it i suppose. once on top the hills the views are great. let's face it, the more hills i go up the fitter i will get, i think..lol.
i am going to be doing route 91 or 90 (i keep getting them mixed up) in a few weeks. not all at once but over a week i think. i know most of the roads it has and they are nice and quiet with spectacular views.

Why do I need to repeat myself to YOU every time I post a mathematical equation? Have you got too much swamp water between your ears?

Read my post again....

"OFF THE AUDAX UK WEBSITE." That's why its in RED text, it's NOT MY calculation.

If you have a problem, take it up with Audax UK.

We at Audax seem to manage calculating our altitude award points quite easily ??????

For a 100 km Populaire with 0.25 points accredited to it, you will earn a Bronze Grimpeur's medal.

The handbook states "with less than two", so I guess 0.25 is less than two and it's a bronze.
