Irregular squeaking sound

I'm puzzled that I get an occasional squeaking sound which sounds like something is being rubbed together when I'm using my bike. I have trued the wheel recently and there seems to be nothing wrong with the chainset either. I'm now leaning towards the conclusion that there is dirt caught somewhere, anyone else have suggestions?

file the top layer of the brake pads or blocks off and fit them back in see if that resolves it, make sure you file in one direction only. but most pads and blocks doe make a noise when wet or damp or when they are cold.

If square taper or Octalink or Isis cranks you might find that is the crank/BB interface. No noticeable play - and everything seems tight, but just enough movement for creaky sort of squeak, which will get more frequent over time, until its once every revolution. Almost always the left hand crank. Take it off, grease it, put it back on, tap it with wooden mallet to make sure properly seated then do the crank bolt up TIGHT.

Or it could be your saddle?

I think scraping sound is a better description in fact and I believe it is due to the brake pads. There is no sound when the wheel is placed straight and rotated but when I tilt the wheel to the right while rotating it in free spin there is a scraping sound against the right brake pad.
