iPad air help with avatar please

I am far from techy and have just changed my avatar to a pic I took whilst playing about with my son on this new iPad thingy. Problem is on the iPad the pic is the right way round, when I put it as avatar it's turned by 90 degrees, how do I right it, I only got the iPad yesterday so still finding my way round it.

It's something to do with Apple devices not saving the orientation properly for other things. Happens to me when I email pictures. Only thing I could suggest is open the photo in a none Apple photo editor, rotate it and save it out from there as a JPEG or something.

Or just live with it
Cheers for the info mate, I'm rubbish with computers so will leave it as is for now as sounds beyond my capabilities
