Evening all I no this should probably be in the Know How section but I thought I would try my luck here first. Recently I got my first road bike and all is good. I have been away for a few weeks and thought I would take it for a spin. The problem is when I squeeze the brake gear shifters they come away from the Rubber mountings are they supposed to this or is there some screw that needs doing up. If you need pics I can supply them.

Thanks in advance

I think you were right the first time...

Some photos would definitely help... if they are Shimano STI's then you need to pull some of the rubber hood away on the outside of the lever and slot a 5mm allen key in to tighten the levers on to the handlebars - you should see there is a slight groove in the lever to allow the allen key in, this gives you a clue where to peel the too back.

What exactly is the problem? I don't see any problem.

I might be acting a bit stupid here but are the shifters supposed to do that. I will stress I am new to Road bikes having come from a mountain bike background. If they are meant to do that well you learn something new everyday.
