Im just about to by my first road bike (finally). Ive been looking at many types of bike insurance (I am the guy who looses and breakes everything).

Most polices offer theft and accidental damage cover. Will accidental damage pay for a new bike/parts if my bike is broken in a crash? Also can I get third party?

Cheers,
Scott

Bigsesal,

Specific cycle insurance tends to be expensive. You will be looking at a comprehensive policy that covers theft as well as accidental damage. It will probably amount to the cost of a new bike every three years.

And if you that likely to crash and totall trash your bike, should you be getting on one? After all, your likely to trash yourself.

Joining CTC, Cycling England or any number of other cycling organisations will give you third party insurance against damage you may cause.

Best value insurance against theft will be through your home insurance. Invest in a good lock.

That concludes my advice.

Cheers

I'm paying about £2.70 a month for insurance which includes accidental damage, theft, public liability and all manner of extras which I'll never use. Good value if you ask me

Just had a look at the policy and schedule, for £2.80 a month you're only covered for £300, sorry but a bike costing that much you're probably better off just buying a new one, also the regs on storing it at home, Indoors only, house must have alarm etc, away from home heavy thatcham approved lock etc almost made it so either you can't claim or you may as well not bother.

Sorry but sounded too good to be true and for me at least it is

I think everyone should have third party insurance: the chances of putting someone in a wheelchair through an error of judgement while you're on your bike is vanishingly small.
Which is why it's so cheap.
But if it does happen, at least they get proper care.
As to insuring against theft, the only bikes that get out my cellar without my eye or my bum on them all the time are not worth insuring.
And the others are uninsurable.

Which is handy, cos I hate bloody insurance and the whole now-here's-something-else-for-you-to worry-about-let-us sell-you-PEACE-OF-MIND insurance industry.

B@st@rds!
(Right, I'll go water the cat now.)

If you have home contents insurance, your bike may be covered - but you'll need to check the detail of the policy as regards amount, exclusions, locking and storage requirements.

If you join British Cycling or the CTC, you will obtain third party insurance and legal cover. Worth it, IMO.

Always check if you can include bikes on home policies first.

Consult CTC or BC for third party insurance

You can, but usually the premium for covering 2 x £1000 is ridiculous.. that is NU, as I have found.... I only want home cover for piece of mind.. I dont commute and I never leave bike unattended when out and about.. but £20+ extra per month makes no value for money...
unless anyone else has alternative
