Is it worth getting?

Does anyone know where I can get insurance for my bike that isn't on house insurance?

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/

Insurance for accidental damage or bike theft is quite expensive imo.

Third party is handy to have - mine costs £28.00 pa for 'Ride' membership and this is included. 10% discount from Wiggle and Halfords (not just bike stuff) too.

Is it worth having, I'd say yes if there is a risk of theft and you would not be able to replace it easily. Depends on value of bike and cost of insurance, as well as level of risk

Bear in mind insurance companies may ask you to have specific locks with could cost a fair chunk

My bikes are on my home insurance

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
I am with can't remember without peering, but I mostly did it not for insuring the bikes (worth SFA) but because it covered the small people (& me) in case wobbles meant a crash into the side of someones car. Plus it included pay outs for being injured or dying and legal stuff too. So that is for me & two small people for £6 a month.

So if I sign up to this : http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership/article/ride-membership I get theft insurance included yes?

Or is it a Seperate policy?

Nope.

"Remember that your British Cycling membership does not provide you with bike insurance that you can claim against if your bike is stolen or if you accidentally damage it yourself.
If, however, your bike is damaged due to the negligence of another person you may be able to use the legal support scheme to pursue a claim against a third party. In such circumstances you are unlikely to receive the replacement value of your bike and the legal process involved in establishing fault may take some time. If your bike is insured separately you should be able to obtain a replacement bike without delay."

I don`t bother with insurance for the bike by the time I take off the price of the locks, excess, depreciation and loss of no claims I don`t see the point. I do however have British Cycling Ride membership that provides 3rd party insurance and legal support for what amounts to about 50p per week.

10% discount from Wiggle and Halfords (not just bike stuff) too.

If you read the small print, for Wiggle applies only to products that are not already discounted by 10% or more, and you'll be lucky to find such products that interest you on their website since pretty much everything is "discounted" already. With Halfrauds it only applies to in store. It's often cheaper to reserve and collect which will "save" more than 10%.
