Im buying an expensive (£1k) bike, in an area notorious for thieves (brighton)... all my bikes have been nicked before. - albeit without 'proper' locking (small gold Dlock,Big Chain,)

this time around I am getting a good 2 Locks, following the guides to locking my bike (i wont leave it overnight anywhere anyway) and getting it insured.

are all the companies equal? or do some stand out from the rest either paying people back or lack of paying people back? ive read some terms & conditions and i think im following their rules but would hate for me to go with a snidey company.. (you often hear about some big companies being difficult to deal with in any industry)

cheers peeps!

you're fully insured until you make a claim... then they'll try to worm out of it if they can.

If you are complying with the conditions of the policy you will be fine.

When buying a policy you often get what you pay for so bear that in mind when comparing your options. Make sure that the policy covers you for your particular circumstances even if it is more expensive. If you try to save on the premium by cutting features you may pay should you have to claim.

The internet is full of people who can tell you how terrible insurance companies are. Most reviews you see on the internet will be bad ones. This is because people are more likely to publish a complaint than a compliment.

When I last renewed my policy I looked at Cycleguard, Protect your bubble, ETA and Endsleigh. The T&C's were pretty similar but with some small differences that could be important to you, so take time to check them.

I went with PYB this year, ETA last year. British Cycling have a discounted deal with Cycleguard, but they were a little more strict regarding the type of lock that I would have to have used on the shed where my bikes were kept, and the cost of a compliant padlock made them too expensive for me.
