Hi there

I have two bikes: A Specialized Sirrus Sport with Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres 700 x 32 and a Giant Defy 2 road bike with Continental Gatorskin Hardshell tyres 25mm. I think the sizes of the tyres are correct! Are these inner tubes the correct ones: I also enclose pics of the actual tyres. I know that the Specialized is a Schrader valve and the Giant is a Presta valve.

Yes they should be fine. As long as your tyre size falls within the range given for the tubes and you have the right valve on the tubes there won't be problems. You can get presta valves in a schrader rim with an appropriate adapter. In a pinch, I've even squeezed in tubes that were slightly too large for the tyre, but be careful when you inflate the tyre that you haven't pinched the tube between the bead and rim, I wouldn't recommend running at max pressure in this case though.

Just one other question - I've got both 40mm and 48mm valves for my road bike - are the 40mm valves too short do you think looking at the road bike pic?

They will be fine. You only have to be careful if the wheels are 'aero' or have deep Aero shrouds which mean that the valves don't protrude far enough out of the hole.

You can use presta valves in rims drilled for schrader, but not the other way around.

As said earlier, to simplify things get tubes that will fit both.

The lock ring on Specialized (I think it's Specialized) has a wee ridge on it, to prevent valve wobbliness when installed in a Schrader rim.

I have some of those lockrings, but I've no idea where they came from. You can actually buy grommets specifically for the job, but you don't need them IME.
