The other day, I decided to put air into my tyres. The tyres can go up to 120psi and I decided to go up to this level; when I got to 120psi, I touched the tyre and the inner tube exploded.

Obviously, I require a new inner tube (700X18-23C); is there anything I need to consider when getting a new tube (apart from ensuring the size is correct) - are they all much of the same quality ? Can they all be pumped up to the same pressure ?

Thank you for any replies.

The pressure rating is defined by the tyre. Your problem was probably because the bead around the lip had not seated correctly into the wheel. It has happened to me. I generally put about 50 psi in, have a good look around the tyre, checking for any bulges or lifting of the tyre wall, and then blow up to full pressure.

Inner tubes - get what ever you fancy. Generally speaking, the more you pay, the less you get (weight).

That's a good tip - pumping the tyre to 50psi and then checking; Thank you very much !

I bought a couple of Halfords tubes (they were reduced) for my son's bike not long ago and they are rubbish. Both loose air, one so quickly I binned it and fitted a Specialized one.

I use Continental tubes, have had no problems and you can get them online for a couple of quid a piece.

Would the tubes advertised above fit to a 700x26C road tyre?
