Inner Tube query

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, so apologies if I've messed up.

I recently bought a Whyte Caledonian hybrid which I love to bits. I need to stock up on some inner tubes but I'm unsure what to order. Basically, the text on the side of one of my tubes says 700 x 35/45c. I've no ideal what this means; I'm assuming the 700 is the wheel diameter (?). I want to buy some suitable tubes from Wiggle but can't find anything with these numbers.

I'd be grateful for any help out there.

Yes, the 700 refers to the wheel size. The other numbers refer to the range of tyre sizes that the tube is suitable for. What size are your tyres? (It will be marked on them.)

700 is the wheel diameter, 35/45c are the widths of tires that the tube can accommodate. Look on your tires and find where it says something along the lines of "700x38c", and get a tube which falls within that range (like the current ones do).

Thanks for the replies. The tyre wall says WTB 700x35c. There could be other writing on the tyre under a layer of mud. It was too dark to clean my bike by the time I got back from work tonight.

Well, you want something like these tubes in the 28/42 size which includes your 35c tyres. Make sure you get the right type of valve - Presta are the skinny metal type and Schrader are the chunkier car-valve type (some hybrids might use that type).

Thanks, you're a great help. I think I'm close to deciphering these numbers now. Would I be right in thinking some are described using imperial measurements and others metric. If I've worked this out correctly, would these be suitable as I have schrader valves;

Opt - A, 26 x 1.3, 1.75

Thanks again.

No they are not right and will not fit, that is a mountain bike tyre hence size 26 at the front. You have a 700 x 35

Thanks for the super speedy reply. I'll go with ColinJ's suggestion and order those.

Yep they will be fine. Personally I would go for the Presta Valves (the skinny long ones) rather than the schraeder valves (car type)

Aren't you supposed to put some sort of adapter over the valve if you do that to protect the tube round the base of the valve from the edges of the larger hole in the rim?

Ah - I found the kind of gizmo that I'm talking about - here.

Probably Colin but when I had my mtb i never bothered, didn't seem to make any difference in the 5 years of running them this way. However given the OP has 700's odds on they are presta wheels.

Nope, they're the shorter, wider schrader variety. That's probably the only thing I do know, thanks to a guy at work.
