Leg finnished
The diamond inlays near the top were to cover up a stupid mistake, when I turned it on the lathe I had used a face plate with 3 screws, the ends of the screws were revealed whist turning, could believe such a schoolboy mistake

hope the contrast between the two woods is greater when I get it oiled up

and the lovely little poem @Reynard helped me with

not sure about the bit of Elm I used between the pedestal and the top- it doesn't really fit in, but too late now.
and all made out of wood that was either destined for landfill or the fire (that's the best bit for me)

That's lovely. The person you've made it for is really lucky to have that.

Thanks you posting photos of the finished article.

That is so lovely @Marchrider, you have some talent!
Can I commission you a pair of similar tables, cats instead of birds please

next table maybe something to do with witches and runes - suppose I could have a 'familiar' on it somewhere
this sort of thing - but a lot less complicated

but first I need to make something that won't take 3 months - have an offcut of Douglas Fir - never worked with that before, going to have a play with that

apart from the fact it was to be a xmas present - 50 days late, not bad for me I suppose, and I kept it on budget of absolutely free.

the maker is often their own biggest critic. It's feckin' lovely!
thankyou - trouble is you just see all your own little faults, things that could have been done better - not that is a problem, the great joy for me is the making of it, not the end product
Its a bit like my cycling, I enjoy the riding bit, the getting to my destination is all a bit pointless as I set off from there a few hours previous, and now I have a dirty bike to clean
