Hi All.

I came across this forum from a google search, "what is the difference between a mag trainer and a turbo trainer?"

To put it simply, I'm live in the centre of a city in an apartment and am looking for a aerobic fitness solution I can do indoors. I thought I could put my bike to good use and started looking into the tools that you can attach to your bike, I this would save me a bit of money and avoid me having to buy some fangled electronic thing, also want to save space!

Anyway, I have looked into these contraptions and am not sure which to look for - Turbo / Mag / Rollers......

I have a decent enough mountain bike with quick release front and back, currently with nobly tires. Not to bothered about leaving the bike set=up with the trainer for a long time as I don't get out on in much. And basically wondering which would be the best to go for? Don't really want to spend a fortune though, so looking for a economic solution. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I would suggest a turbo trainer, and also buying a slick tyre for the back unless you dont mind burning all your tread off.

I had a go on rollers the other week and i hated them,i couldn't balance on them even with two people trying to hold me up, shook me upquite bad actually cus i got really nervous and started shacking and stuff, wasnt nice.

Thanks youngun, sounds scary the roller option, and seen as I live on me own, it could get messy!! Don't fancy going to AE and trying to explain that one.

Can anyone tell me wot is the difference between a Mag and Turbo??;)

I've no idea. I assume Mag is short for magnetic. A type of resistance.

You've given no indication of a budget / how much you're going to use one. If I was going to get another trainer I would probably go for the kurt kinetic.

You will also need to purchase a slick rear tyre. Knobbly tyres don't work!
A mat / cover to go under the trainer to protect your carpet from sweat.
A big fan (it's amazing how hot it gets indoors!)
Something to watch / listen to as turboing is very boaring!

I would post something in Classifieds/Wanted first.

Lots of people buy exercise kit and only use it for a few months and that is particularly true of turbos. I know - I'm one of them. They really are staggeringly boring, with or without telly to watch or music to listen to. Lots of them around second hand.

If you're still using it regularly this time next year, well done. You will have more willpower than most of us.
