Well after a lot of advice on here after stressing on my average speed, I took onboard the general consensus more miles was better. So before yesterday my mileage was about 18 miles each ride. Yesterday though churned out 35 miles now I know this is still short for some on here but I was made up :-)

Well done.
Yeah, forget about average speed. Unless you are racing of course.
Just slowly but surely build up your stamina by riding that bit further each time.

Yeah that's a great start. Average speed will vary, and as Ian said, it only matters when your racing. There is always
somebody going to ride faster and longer than you are. Some days are better than others, just the fact that your out
there matters most.

35 miles is more than some on here do! Well done, average speed is dependant not just on your fitness level, but where you ride, how hilly the terrain is, what condition are the roads, how much traffic and lights etc so its only useful when you compare versus yourself. So get yourself an app for your smartphone, or a cheap little cycle computer, or just use pen and paper and keep a note of your mileage and speed, over time this can be a great little guide in showing your own progress.

Don't worry about those guys flying past you, enjoy the scenery YOUR flying past and be happy knowing today your out there doing it!
