It came out of the seat tube I expect, if you have a rearward facing seat clamp slot and any thing but a perfect seatpost fit in the frame water sprayed up from the rear wheel will work its way in to the seat tube.
Mountain bike manufacturers cottoned on to this years ago which is why most have their seat post clamp slots in front, away from the spray.
Many aluminum frames have sealed off BB shells, unlike steel frames whose frame tubes are open ended at the BB. This is good news if water is getting in as it prevents water accessing the bottom bracket and wrecking the bottom bracket bearings.
