Both very nice bikes.
They are both pretty much similar in spec except the Canondale has Carbon forks.
That would swing it for me.

But... get yourself down to your local Evans and have a test ride of each if possible.

Surprised at that I didn't know you got Allezs without carbon forks. I'm an allez fan, but agree that carbon forks swing it in favour of the caad.

God, when I was 14 I got an orange and a lump of coal!

Jokes aside, both are very nice bikes - if you want carbon forks then the 50 quid is a bargain as you can't buy them for 50 quid as an aftermarket extra.

Shimano 2300 is decent as well - I have it on my bike. Just make sure you keep it lubed and cleaned and it'll change smoothly although that goes for any bike really.

Nice and good work whittling it down to those two.

I ride an Allez elite (that comes with Carbon forks) and love it. Even so, I would go with Ian's advice and take the Caad,.

neither will be a disappointment.

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-id_8167038.html this has carbon forks, 3 middle gears (whatever they're called) and is 10.5kg... if you want to save £300 go for this bike  everyone who's got this bike has left good reviews and is considered the best value road bike on the planet  and it looks even greater in the flesh.

Personally I'd go with this. It's a stunning bike that worth way more then £300. And as Nick said, it's got some great reviews. I'm about to buy a second one for one of my Kids.

Plus 3 chain rings mean it'll climb walls.
