This thread was inspired by the "In praise of the pootle" thread, which I kept reading as "In praise of the pot noodle"

But I don't wish to praise only pot noodles, I want to praise all instant noodles, including - in fact particularly - those slightly less instant ones that come in packets.

My favourite flavour is ... actually I don't have a favourite flavour. They are all kind of generic MSG.

That difficult moment when someone you respect, and think you know, reveals a penchant for pot noodles or cardigans.

Back in my merchant navy days, I had my first experience of instant noodles while in Japan, 1978/79. They were far superior to the disgusting (IMHO) Pot Noodle copy which arrived years later in the UK.. Japanese Cup Noodles were actually quite nice to eat. They came in a polystyrene cup. The modern version of Cup Noodle available in some UK supermarkets doesn't have the same flavour that I recall. Not sure if they are made to a different recipe, or if my taste buds have changed in 45+ years, but I rarely buy them - or any other instant noodles.

I got into noodles at Uni. I liked batchelors super noodles at first, but then realized they are awful, gaggy, doughy and lack any Asian flavours. I made do with Tescos own which were about 20p.
As I've grown older and wiser, I've found only foreign noodles will do. I like the Thai ones, and Korean ones. Kimchi flavor are most excellent but the chicken is also good

Aldi do a nice one in a few flavours. Pour boiling water on and leave for 4 minutes, no microwave needed. Ideal when you have a hole that needs filling.

I think it's Aldi, but it may be another supermarket, who do am own brand of instant noodles in a pot. Obviously they can't call them Pot Noodle, as that's taken. So they came up with the witty name of ... "Noodle Pot"

I must admit to being partial to curry Pot Noodles, but I very rarely buy them as I suspect they have about as much nutritional value as a piece of cardboard.

Ate a lot of 'two minute noodles' packets during my long term cycle touring years in the 90s.
Nowadays, my favourites are the Nissin Soba noodles in pot form or packet form. With these you drain the liquid out after they've cooked and then you add the sauce.

No surprise that instant noodles are very popular over here. We keep a few packets in the cupboard as emergency food.

In the early eighties Vesta ready meals were all the rage. Can remember myself and then girlfriend making a Vesta paella type thing, and thinking how sophisticated and continental we must be
