In praise of alcohol 'free' beer...

I've been on the wagon for a while know, since the chest infection of the spring. I sleep a lot better as a result of avoiding the hooch, but I miss the taste, and the "cutting the phlegm" sensation when one has a beer after a good ride.

Becks Blue is cheap, £3 so six bottles. Ridiculously low in alcohol. Not particularly nice but then it is a style of beer I wouldn't volunteer to drink normally so I went searching for some brown stuff.

Bernard Jantar is a czeck dark lager style beer with only 0.5% alc by volume. Chilled, as it should be, it has a crisp bite, a good nose and a decent round finish. Of course the mouth feel sans alcool is different but that goes with the turf.

Super Bock Sem Álcool is a black lager from Portugal. Also a perfectly acceptable alternative to the real thing.

Anyone know of any others....?

'Swan Light' was a good one, the pub that sold it had it on tap, but that was some time back.
You may be able to find it still somewhere though?
Also San miguel no alcohol is not bad if you can find a souce.

Swan light was lovely, the closest to a proper beer taste, not seen it for at least twenty years though.

I'm alcohol free due to medication, and out of the alcohol-free beers I've tried, Erdinger Alkoholfrei gets my vote. Beck's blue is okay, but not great, although it has the advantage of being far more readily available. Bitburger Drive isn't bad, and surprisingly I found Kaliber to be drinkable - just make sure it's in date.

Because I have a pretty strict self-imposed "dont drink and drive" rule, especially when playing at local folk clubs and open mic nights, I have been obliged to try quite a few alcohol free beers, and I can't get on with any of them.

My preference is Fosters "Radler", which is alcohol free lager and cloudy lemonade. You won't mistake it for beer, but as a drink I like it. I find it very refreshing. Unfortunately, not many pubs sell it.......

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Tried the Cobra. Tastes like gack.
Filthy, isn't it.

A friend had a Fosters Radler - I didn't get a taste bit did sniff the bottle. Smelt revolting, a bit like lemonade that had gone off.

I've steered clear thus far. The bottled Radler in the Austria is just the ticket but one needs be wary of anything with Fosters in the branding.
