My spokes were making a funny rattling sound. I thought they felt slightly loose.
I went into my LBS.

It was the spoke reflector rattling!

Durrrrrr.

Turns out the spokes weren't loose at all.

They were good though, they only laughed at me a little bit.

What's wrong with reflectors?

Well, it doesn't really work as a euphemism... oh, I see... nowt, as far as I'm concerned. Nor bells. A cycling club person once sneered at my bell. I will hunt him down and ring it in his ear till he goes deaf.

What's wrong with reflectors?

Nowt wrong with they're just not cool and imho not much use ( is there a spoke reflector debate? or does this go in with helmet discusions?) they're designed to reflect when you are broadside to an oncoming vehicle in which case you are out of the way by the time he gets to you or he is going too fast to avoid you. May be useful if you are playing chicken in the middle of an unlit crossroads with no lights and dark clothes on but other than that I can't see them saving your life. But it does no real harm other than to damage the aesthetics of nice rims and it is a legal requirement that all new bikes are sold with them on. I don't know if it's illegal to take them off but I have. Perhaps I should check

Take off the reflectors and fit 3M Sekuclips. Much more noticeable in the dark (the bike below has both fitted, for comparison) but pretty much invisible during daylight.
