If anyone is having problems trying to find a comfy saddle then you want to try a Specialized Romin SL. I bought this yesterday and on it,s maiden voyage i completed 70 miles on it with no problems at all.
Bike Radar gave this 5 stars when they reviewed it and i can see why

Ok without sounding too much of a div, for a more.......... sturdy..........shorter person would I go wider or thinner saddle?
Measured for a saddle, sounds a bit personal

I think that it all depends on whether you are a lard arse or a racing snake. Also if you find a specialized dealer, they will put it on a bike for you to sit on.That way you should be able to feel the difference on the sit bones

Nope, it's about (sit)bones, not weight/fat. There are plenty of racing snakes around with, forgive the expression, "birthing hips" or so it would seem from their sitbone measurements. I, on the other hand, am a short fat middle-aged woman with narrow sit bones and do just fine on narrow racing saddles. Go figure. ;)

Top insult if you used the ole 'look at the birthing hips on that'

The way they do it is to get you to sit on a sort of memory foam pad. When you get up, your sit bones will have left an impression and the distance between them can be measured. Then they look up on a chart and come up with the ideal saddle width for you.

I'm a strip of wind and was surprised to be measured up for a saddle in the middle of the size range. But it's certainly comfy.

I got measured for Spesh saddle some time ago....and purchased a model that came hightly recommended for all day riding comfort, in the appropriate width (and despite being a "big bloke" - my sit bones are close together, so it was a 130)

On rides over about two hours it gave me a distinctly "numb bum"

I was glad to get rid of it and change to a "proper saddle" that would, over time, mould itself to my contours (yes you've guessed it - a BROOKS)
