Ideas for a city/hybrid bike with a budget up to £400?

With disc brakes, large frame, not single-speed (but also don't need god knows how many gears). I commute 3 times a week to work, so I need some decent entry-level suggestions, not planning to ride marathons etc. I had a couple of bikes on my watchlist but they sold out last week / sales ended.

Any suggestions welcome.

Used R7 fast flat bar from Whyte with 1x gearing 👍🏻 eg Whitechapel, Portobello, Cambridge.
Take mudguards and pannier rack, perfect commuter.
Otherwise a Boardman or Trek FX model would be on my list but below the Whytes.
Or a reduced Scott if wanting new
