Hi folks. Anyone know anything about Ideal cycles? Watching internet auction site for an Ideal Race Pro mountain bike. Seller claims latest model is circa £1300. Found their website, but no price list. Never heard of them, any help much appreciated.
After a quick look I'd say you can get a lot more for your 1300 elsewhere. The one you're looking at appears to have this spec (on their website): FRAME-SIZES 41/46/51/56CM C-TFORK-SHOCK RST-GILA 100mm PRELOAD+LOCKOUTRD-FD-SHIFTERS Shimano Deore - C050 - ST-EF29CRANKSET-BB Shimano TX70 42/34/24 Tx170mm CartridgeBrakes Shimano M420 VWheels Alloy QR Hubs Double Wall Rims Kenda Koyote 26 x 2.10Age Group 18+Frame Type GentsOption Disc Brake Ready Wheels
The spec seems low to me - if the disc brakes are optional. I'm not an MTB expert and know more about road but last year I got a Giant XTC2 for £1000 from Pedalon.co.uk and got about £200 of freebies (see their site for their podium points system). It also came with Avid Juicy (2 or 3 I forget) brakes which received good reviews and are recognised as good brakes.
The frame is one of the very most important parts of the bike and personally at that price point, I would given an unknown like IDEAL a wide berth. Beside a well known name like Giant you can pick up many very established and recognised other makes for similar and less money.
Thanks very much for great reply. Meant to say it only has a few hours to run, is used, and is sitting at under £200 at the moment. Hear what you are saying about the frame though, shame. Thanks again.
Ah..well if youre spending circa 200-300 it's a different matter and half my reply doesn't count. Even if it was worth a good bit less than 1300 it may be worth getting ..or patiently checking out ebay for a bargain from a better known make and that better frame. I don't know what else is on there at the mo or what many well known brands typically go for second hand.
