have a 2006 Ideal Crosser which uses a Thun Bottom Bracket and I need to remove it for replacement.
The bottom bracket cups have 6 half holes in the outer perimeter.
Can anybody please supply me with the necessary tool? Or information where I can get one?

It seems Ideal stopped producing bikes in 2012 or so, so I assume that means spares as well. Ideal UK are no longer around which is going to make things awkward if I ever need another derailleur hanger, although I've got a couple of bent ones kicking around. They're not really the sort of things that can be straightened are they. So if I ever do need another hanger, it's likely to be an exciting time.

From your description it sounds like you want one of these: Link

I'm not familiar with Ideal bikes but the majority of recent bikes use standard British threaded bottom brackets. This means that the right hand (drive side) cup will have a left hand thread and will undo clockwise. (Left hand (non-drive) side is a normal right hand thread and undoes the usual way)

Bottom brackets are generally a common part. You'll need something like this to remove the cranks, then you need to check what type it is (square taper is common or splined types such as octalink and Isis on higher specced bikes). Next is the sizing which is determined by the width of the bottom bracket shell (168mm is common) and the length of the axle. Check on these and let us know what you find.

Thanks Phil, I'm edging ever closer to the answers. I've discovered that the BB is indeed a German Thun which uses the same fitment as Campag, FAG and a couple of others Sachs, for instance so it's not all doom and gloom after all.
